Guadeloupe is a slice of the French West Indies that has changed little over time. Thus, it still has loads of old world charm combined with its fortuitous location in the Caribbean, southeast of Puerto Rico. Basse Terre is the capital of Guadelouope, situated on the island of the same name. There are eight other islands in the archipelago, most of which are of volcanic origin. The busiest town, Pointe-a-Pitre, is located on the centre of the island of Basse Terre; the offshore islands on the south and west offer a good choice of charming excursions and day trips.
